Mimosa Cake for International Women’s Day

A very important date, specifically in Italy, is March 8th– International Women’s Day! International Women’s Day is the day to celebrate achievements of women and show your love and appreciation for all the strong women in your life.

In Italy, this celebration is referred to as La Festa della Donna. Many Italians celebrate by giving flowers, specifically the yellow mimosa flower. The beautiful, bright coloring of the mimosa flower represents the sun and the flower itself is a symbol of strength, sensibility, and is given as a sign of respect. The flower looks delicate, but in reality it can withstand a lot– just like a woman can.

The appreciation for this flower is what inspired a traditional cake to eat on this day– a Mimosa Cake!

This cake has a beautiful look with a delicious, light, and refreshing inside. It is a yellow sponge cake two ways– with a custard filling or with a pineapple filling. The outside is made to resemble the mimosa flower. It is pieces of our yellow sponge cake cut up and placed on top to mirror the yellow color and the intricate design of the mimosa flower.

    1. Hi Ana! We would love to open a store in Downer’s Grove. We continue to keep an eye out for a property we could utilize, but haven’t found one yet. We are continuing to search in the area and surrounding areas!

  2. Hello and thank you for your store!!!

I am in Plainfield and shop your Naperville store, I have to admit before you came to the Naperville area, I would be just like my Nana, but I would drive to the Elmwood Park store- Crazy I know!!!

I have been shopping at the Caputo’s grocery store since I was a little girl my Nana and I would take a bus to the Harlem avenue store from North & Long – Hey at age 5 that’s a hike without a car back then – My Nana would get a bug up her butt, get frustrated with the buses and we start to walk a lot since the buses were horrible in Chicago, and my Nana just wanted to get to the store early to get the best pick of fresh bread, veggies, fruit, and cheeses – Oh my goodness the bags we would have, she had this portable cart on wheels – it was filled all the time – Plus she had to get home to start dinner – It’s incredible the history I have as a little girl growing up shopping at Caputo’s and now as a grown woman making and carrying on family traditions and going to Caputos for all the Holiday needs and goodies –

Thank you for being open in Naperville, It’s a bit of a hike still and I wouldn’t walk it, but I think if Nana was here we’d be walking because she just loved this store… I certainly could go on and on – But I wanted to say from my heart to yours May you and your family have a Very Happy and Blessed Easter…

  3. Hello my absolute favorite store! A little story to share.. I am a mom of 4, and LOVE shopping at your Addison location. Unfortunately over the summer, I was very sick and hospitalized for 2 months in the ICU. I had a more severe case as I am constantly on the go, cooking, cleaning, working, etc, and my immune system just said, “Ok, I’m done”! I was in a wheelchair for a month after I came home. Had intense physical therapy and graduated to a walker. Today I am myself and almost 100%! I kept thinking, “Push yourself Michelle, Caputo’s is waiting”, the entire time! Nurses and therapists would laugh knowing one of my goals was shopping at Caputo’s! I’m super excited to walk through those doors next month! From the fresh foods to every possible Italian brand I find in the store, I’m always so satisfied just shopping there! My friends all laugh at me and say I’m secretly 86 not 46! I’d rather spend 500 on a shopping spree there,, (which is my lowest purchase, lol), then buying anything else! The music, the flowers, the smell of fresh basil, I’m spent! So good job to all of you at your Addison facility, (my home away from home), you literally had a hand in my recovery! Till we meet again in March, see you soon, and thank you all for a fabulous store with everything a person can need or want!!! Grazie!!!!
